Les Carroz has everything for you and your party to enjoy the perfect winter sports holiday, catering for beginner, intermediate or experienced skiers or snowboarders - and even those that don't wish to ski or board !
Les Carroz is one of the 5 villages of the Grand Massif, the fourth largest ski area in France with a reputation for a consistently good snow record! This is due to its proximity to Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva, and also its range in altitude which all help to create a local climate and conditions. There are 265km of marked runs, 131 pistes, 78 lifts and a vertical drop of almost 1800m. The area is renowned for its suitability for varying levels of skier and snowboarder : wide and gentle beginners pistes, the famous extensive off-piste throughout the area, and the powder above Flaine. The most famous and highest part of the ski area is the ‘Flaine Bowl’, which is often quoted as having one of the best snow records in the entire Alps, as well as having the best snow record of any non-glacial area.
Having been established in 1936, Les Carroz is one of the oldest ski resorts in the Alps,. Until recently the village had been less well known than neighbouring Flaine, but Les Carroz has been thriving in recent years. In 2004 a new telecabine replaced the main bubble out of the village at a cost of €12 million, and a further €15 million is being invested to make the skiing and boarding more accessible and enjoyable. The developments include replacing old chairlifts with new high-speed 6-chair lifts, improving the snow making capabilities, and improving reception areas and parking. Les Carroz has been awarded the French national "Family Plus Mountain" rating for the attention to families and children, and disabled skiers are welcome. There are numerous ski and guiding schools based in Les Carroz, offering both group lessons and tailored private tuition. English is widely spoken.
For experienced skiers and boarders, it is worth noting that another advantage of Les Carroz is it's proximity to the many other ski resorts in the Haute Savoie. These include many very good intermediate resorts and arguably some of the most challenging skiing in the world :-
